Another successful days fishing with the Trelevans

After establishing ourselves at Scamander Van Park,

we unfolded the boat & trailer & set out 

up the Scamander River for an exciting 

days fishing!

However, as the picture above shows,

that was probably the highlight of

2 days fishing on the river.

I'm actually asleep in this photo

Always good to be out in the boat

though, light wind, quiet and

peaceful, with only the sounds

of birds to break the silence,

and uninterrupted by the pesky

noises of us landing big

fish in the boat!

So we gave the fishing away,

& went to the museum in St. Helens,

a larger town, about 15k north of us.

Yay! I finally got a surf!!

That's the good news, the 

bad news is, I have a problem 

with my hip, which makes it 

too painful to surf the 

way I normally do.

Probably the last pics of me surfing

until I get my hip fixed.

over the long weekend.

Just waiting for the 3rd misfortune!

Oh, woe is me!!

Had a Pizza night at Roger & Cheryl's,

& a surf movie afternoon there today.

Swell's up, wind's offshore, but I'm  

trying not to look at the waves 

from his verandah.

Have been in Scamander 10 days now,

& have enjoyed our time here.

Have been mainly chilling, but now,

time to move on, weather is telling us.

Sun was just shining, now it's 

windy & raining.

Will be slowly making our way 

back to Devonport.

We sail away on the 29th March,

and arrive at Port Melbourne

on Good Friday.

Will probably have to head

East & inland, as coast will 

be booked out.

Fresh Chillies grown in a community garden in Bicheno

Coles Bay was a lovely place to stay, but very busy 

with lots of tourists, motorhomes, backpackers,

& high prices. $90/hr for canoe hire for example.

Anyway, we moved on to Bicheno, another beautiful

destination on this North East coast of Tassie.

The locals say this section of coastline, has milder winters,

& the water temp is warmer too.

Add to that, clear ocean water, & white sand beaches

make this strip a popular destination for other Tasmanians.

Diamond Island which is accessible at low tide. via a narrow sand strip.

We saw a use for the heavy kelp that grows here.

A lady in the town dries it, & makes fruit bowels,

which she sells in the local craft shops.

These guys aren't cheap in Tassie, seen in Bicheno

An easy walk up to the top of Whalers lookout

gave us a good view of the surrounding area.

Caught up with Kath & Geoff

from our home town, who are also

travelling in Tassie.

We had a good chat over coffee,

& agreed to meet up again at a dance,

at St. Helens RSL.

Loved Bicheno, could have stayed longer, 

but was keen to move on to Scamander,

with the hope of getting a surf.

It was only 60kms down the road,

so we arrived in Scamander late morning.

That's the beauty of Tassie,

never far to your next destination.

Scamander is smaller than Bicheno,

but we got there just before the long weekend.

It got quite busy once that started.

On the 2nd day here, we ran into Roger, 

who I used to surf with in Mandurah.

He invited us back to his house 

for coffee & a chat.

Roger & his wife Cheryl, live just

out of Scamander, with a verandah view

overlooking 2 surf breaks

Nothing like having local knowledge

to find out about places to surf.

The night we arrived in Scamander,

we went to the RSL dinner & dance at St. Helens

As a bonus, Elvis put on a show.

We met Kath & Geoff there,

had a good, 3 course meal,

& a night of dancing

The next day, we took a walk along the beach

looking for a good fishing spot.

Took a drive up to St. Marys via St. Marys Pass,

climbing up via a very twisted, curvy, many

sharp bended road.

This will be the road we take

after we leave Scamander,

on our way back to Devonport.

Gets colder up at St. Marys than on the coast,

as noted by the size of the woodpiles up there.

We returned to Scamander via

Elephant Pass, which was a narrower,

twisted, curvy, many sharp, bended road.

The Bream fishing in the Scamander River

is reputed to be very good, 

so we've assembled the boat & trailer,

& after the long weekend, 

will go fishing.

Will probably stay here, for a couple of weeks,

instead of moving on to St Helens, as it's only

15kms away from the bigger town.
