Palais Theatre at St. Kilda
We arrived in Melbourne last Tuesday, & have had a great time visiting the many sights,
sounds & experiences that Melbourne has to offer.
We stayed about 40 mins out of the City, & commuted in by bus every day.
Once in there, we used the tram system to get around, as well as lots of walking.
We averaged around 9kms walking a day, & our legs were worn to stumps at the end.
So worth it though, what a wonderful City to explore, from the top of the Eureka Tower,
down to the little laneways, with cafes, coffee shops, quirky retail shops, & colourful artwork
splashed all over the original brick walls.
We toured the MCG & the Sports Museum located there. Could have spent the whole day.
The largest crowd for any event, surprisingly, was over 130,000, & that was for the
American evangelist, Billy Graham.
The sports museum was fascinating, covering all sports, & with over 3500 objects in there.

Of course, we had to pay a visit to the Queen Victoria Markets.
The merchandise section was pretty much like most markets,
but the produce section was brilliant, of course the food usually is.
Our next stop was the Old Melbourne Gaol,
where Ned Kelly was imprisoned & hanged.

A visit to Melbourne isn't complete without a cruise up the Yarra,
with Melbourne CBD on one side, & Southbank on the other.
We did a trial run down to the Port Melbourne prior to Tuesday's sailing
just to make sure we take the right path with our van, as there are some low
overhead bridges we cant get under. Plus a place to park while
waiting to board the ship.
That went well, so we decided to drive down to St. Kilda, to have a look around.
I wanted to take a look at Luna Park before they close it down as rumoured.
Will be sad if they close it down, probably to put up high rise apartments.
My mother took me to the Sydney Luna Park when I was about 8 or 10
Looking through a child's eyes I remember how wonderful it was.
That was a day of rest, where we didn't walk all over Melbourne for a change.
The next day we caught up with Nomads Tony & Marion originally from Geraldton.
We met them on our last trip at Streaky Bay.

They've been here for a few months, so to us, they were locals.
They took us on a walking tour round SouthBank,
through the Botanic Gardens, down to the Myer Music Bowl,
and on to the Shrine of Remembrance

Following that, we had a late lunch at the Arbory, a Café on the Yarra
We'll have another catchup with them when we get back from
Tassie in 4 months time.

We've had such a great time in Melbourne, love the city, the sights & sounds,
not to mention the food & drink. Not wanting to leave,
but new adventures await in Tassie.
